The Salazar Family:

Gregorio Salazar

Gregorio Salazar was also known as Gregorio The Conqueror, a Spanish nobleman, who lived during the Spanish Renaissance.  He was famous in a remote Spanish community as a folk hero.  It's uncertain to whether he was from there, or claimed to of.

During Salazar's lifetime, much of the Spanish kingdoms were unified under the rule of Fernande of Aragon, and Queen Isabella of Castile, also known as the Catholic monarchs.  The emerging Spanish nation gradually concluded the Reconquista and began the Inquisition targeting Jews and Muslims. During this time there lay a pagan community rooted in a mountainous region, said to perform human sacrifice rituals and indoctrinate people with mind-control parasites called Las Plagas. Salazar led a small army in slaughtering followers of the cult, with some being tied up and executed and others burnt at the stake. The parasites themselves were sealed away in an ancient complex in the caves beneath a castle. When the conquest was completed, Salazar took on the role of a feudal lord, both protecting the Roman Catholic converts and persecuting any suspected crypto-Iluminatos activities. Following Salazar's death, his descendants maintained this state of affairs into the 21st century under Ramón Salazar, where he was romanticized as a folk hero.

Hipolito Salazar, 2nd Count of Valdelobos was a Spanish nobleman and Count of Valdelobos. He inherited his titles from his father, Gregorio Salazar, 1st Count of Valdelobos, and earned the moniker "The Demon Sealer." During his life, Los Iluminatos was banished to an island off the coast, though the threat of Plaga-infected animals remained in the region. Following his father's death, Salazar Castle was attacked from the caverns beneath, and while Hipólito was able to seal the creatures within he was injured in the process and died of an infection. He was succeeded by his son, Gregorio Salazar, 3rd Count of Valdelobos.

He inherited his titles from his father, Hipolito Salazar, 2nd Count of Valdelobos, and earned the moniker "The Architect". During his lifetime, Salazar Castle was attacked by Plaga-infected arthropods which led to his father's death. Salazar was overcome by a madness and bankrupted the family treasury on a massive expansion project for the castle to ward off future attacks. He was succeeded by his son, José Alonso Salazar, 4th Count of Valdelobos.

Jose Alonso Salazar

José Alonso Salazar, 4th Count of Valdelobos was a Spanish nobleman and Count of Valdelobos. He inherited his titles from his father, Gregorio Salazar, 3rd Count of Valdelobos, and earned the moniker "The Tranquil" for his reign-long efforts to recover the family's financial influence following his heavy spending. Salazar was succeeded by his son, Alejandro Salazar, 5th Count of Valdelobos.

Alejandro Salazar

Alejandro Salazar, 5th Count of Valdelobos, was a Spanish nobleman who inherited his titles from his father, José Alonso Salazar, 4th Count of Valdelobos. Notable for overseeing renovation work at Salazar Castle, including the construction of a courtyard and ballroom, he earned the moniker 'The Lavish.' Salazar's spouse was María Isabel, recognized as his heir in place of their son, Diego.

Diego Salazar

Diego Salazar, 7th Count of Valdelobos was a Spanish nobleman and Count of Valdelobos. He inherited his titles from his parents, Alejandro Salazar, 5th Count of Valdelobos and María Isabel Salazar, 6th Countess of Valdelobos and oversaw their generations long duty in protecting Valdelobos from demons. He was eventually killed in unnatural circumstances, said by his staff to be murder at the hands of the Devil. His wife, Catalina was left to raise their son, the young Ramón Salazar, 8th Count of Valdelobos.

Ramon Salazar

Ramon Salazar is a descendent of the 15th century noble warrior, Gregorio Salazar I, Ramón inherited the position of castellano alongside his peerage, a duty more important to the family than the peerage itself. As the 21st century came about, Salazar left his Catholic faith behind and converted to Los Iluminatos, a cult led by Osmund Saddler, who had access to bioweapons research and was interested in Las Plagas. Although his diminutive stature resembled that of a ten-year-old, and his grey hair and wrinkled face gave him the appearance of an elderly man, he was only 20 years old.

Not much is known about Ramon's early life.  If he claimed his age to be 20 at the time of Leon's arrival, then Ramon inherited the Salazar Castle at an early age with no family to take care of him.  His ancestors had local folklore spoken about them, Ramon Salazar was highly unpopular with the local villagers.

Taking advantage of his young state and isolation, Salazar was met by Saddler provided insight into Los Illuminatos, a modern cult bearing the same name as a religion from years ago that was worshipped by Salazar ancestors.  Salazar accepted to be a prophet to Saddler's cult.  Los Illuminatos myths stated that the Salazar ancestors tainted in sin ever since the first castellan sealed the Plaga in an ancient ruined city beneath the Salazar Family castle.  Salazar atoned for his sins and his family's sins, he hired a workforce from the nearby village to excavate the underground ruins sealed off.  The Plaga parasites were thought of to be long dead.  The workers inhaled the carcasses dormant fine spores, regenerated into fully reformed Plaga bodies over the course of a few years.

Saddler's bioweapons research team began experimenting on these organisms, creating a large amount of Plaga eggs for the purpose to spread the parasites through out the region and beyond through out the world.  Salazar was granted one of the dominate Plaga species which would grant him full control over his body as well as control hosts.  Salazar formed a large armed forces of cultists, and used two Verdugo B.O.W. as his personal protection guards. It was Salazar's duty to protect the Queen Plaga which produced new Plaga constantly being asexual.

In 2004, Salazar got caught up in Saddler's plot to infiltrate the US government by kidnapping the US president's daughter, Ashely Graham.  Saddler hired former American soldier, Jack Krauser to kidnap her and bring her back to the village.  Saddler's ultimate plan was to implant her with the Plaga parasite, send her back to her father president and implant the Plaga parasite eggs into him and the president's government. The plot to kidnap Ashley was a success.  The president sent his new agent, Leon S. Kennedy, a former rookie cop that survived Raccoon City to go and rescue her. Leon managed to locate Ashley, but due to conditions in the village and the lost of their rescue chopped noticed by his contact Hunnigan, the two had to seek shelter in the Salazar castle.

Salazar laid traps, monsters and Ganado forces through out the castle grounds to impede Leon's mission.  Thanks to Krauser's knowledge of Leon's radio frequency, Salazar hijacked Leon's radio line, taunting Leon and Ashely as they explored the castle.  Salazar failed repeatedly to kill Leon, he was able to recapture Ashely using Novistadors.  Leon eventually caught up with them, but Salazar activated a floor trap, sending Leon plummeting down a pit, surviving using a grappling rope to catch his fall.  Salazar, getting angry and aggravated with Leon, send one of his Verdugo, or right hand guard to deal with Leon.  Meanwhile, Salazar and his other Verdugo guard inducted Ashley into the Los Illuminatos cult ritual before sending her off with Saddler to Saddler's military island base.

Leon survived the fight against the Verdugo that was after him, he pursued Salazar by locating him into a tower, sheltering the Queen Plaga.  Leon made it to the very top after battling cultists and a rolling barrel trap.  One last desperate attempt to stop Leon, Salazar merged himself into the Queen Plaga with the other Verdugo guard.  Salazar/Verdugo as a large mutant Plaga became bigger and stronger and much deadlier, but was no match for Leon who managed to kill the triple monster and escape the castle and head for the island base via Ada Wong's motorboat.
