The Ashford Family:

Alexander Ashford

Alexander Ashford, worked directly for Umbrella Pharmaceuticals in the early years as a geneticist. He is the son of Edward Ashford, the 5th Earl Ashford. He was also the last family her to the earldom because his children were secretly adopted, meaning no direct relationship.

Alexander Ashford is the son of Edward Ashford, one of the founders of Umbrella.  They studied together on the Progenitor Virus. Alexander didn't have the skills or background as a virologist and served as a researcher working for Umbrella, using his knowledge on genetics.  Alexander never really became a scientist for Umbrella, but did discover the gene that regulated intellect.  He tried to revive the Ashford family name, and used the DNA of Veronica Ashford (a family matriarch) which he became obsessed with.  Alexander combined the DNA of Veronica with a dangerous gene that increased intelligence and use it to resurrect Veronica.  The results were that Veronica gave birth to twins, Alfred and Alexia. Alfred had above average intelligence than Alexia but Alexia was a child prodigy that possessed great intellect. She became a chief senior researcher at the Umbrella facility in Antarctica.  She was only 10 years old back then.  Alexander became horrified that the public learned about the existence of the Ashford twins and their disregard for humanity.  He tried to make sure that no one else would find out about his experiment, hiding the record documents in a safe chamber at the Antarctic facility.

For over a period of ten years, found a room that required three family gemstones to gain access.  Two of them were easy to get, since he and Alexia possessed them, while the third one was Alexander's and he tricked him into giving it to him.  When Alfred entered the secret room, he saw something that made him snap.  It was revealed that Alexander had Alfred to be used for experimentation and the nature of it.  At this time, Alexander became worried about Alexia, who became highly obsessed with the T-Veronica Virus, that she created combining the Progenitor Virus with the DNA of the queen ant.  Alexia had intensions to use the virus on herself and then release it on the world.  That is when Alexander created an anti-B.O.W. weapon called the linear launcher, which was a last resort he would use on her if she went far enough carrying on her plans.  Alfred was bitter that his father didn't create him with the same level of intelligence as Alexia, so he captured him.  He used his father as a test subject for research on the T-Veronica Virus, causing Alexander to mutate into a monster. He was deemed to be a failed experiment, chained and bound him in a secret room in the Antarctic base of Umbrella where he was held in confinement until 1998.  The monster that Alexander became is known as the Nosferatu who made terrible noises that frightened the workers.

Nosferatu remained in confinement for 15 years causing disturbing noises of agony that made the workers scared.  Eventually, Claire Redfield discovered the monster in his office and she too felt horrified.  After the Nosferatu broke free, he made his way to where Claire was trying to escape from the Antarctic base, where he tried to kill Claire, but Steve Burnside intervened by killing the creature, sending him down the mining room hole.  Later at the helipad, Claire and Steve would see the return of the monster and this time able to give off a poisonous gas.  The Nosferatu knocked Steve off the edge of the platform, having him hold onto the edge, while Claire did battle against it.  She killed the monster by shooting his exposed heart, ending his years of suffering.

Somehow, the body of the Nosferatu ended up in the ocean, picked up later by Alexia using a crane.  Later on, when Chris Redfield made it to the facility, he activated the crane, lifting the Alexander Nosferatu out of the icy water, causing it to drop is green family gemstone.  Just then, Chris encounter Alexia, who made the comment that's how she deals with insignificant bugs.  Later on, at the end of a major battle between Chris and Alexia, Chris managed to use the linear launcher that Alexander came up with as a means to stopping Alexia from committing world domination. Chris managed to kill Alexia, thus ending the Ashford family line.

Veronica Ashford

Veronica Ashford was a 19th century British noblewoman.  She is the founder of the aristocratic Ashford family line.  She was renowned for her intellect and beauty.

She was born into a family of wealth and aristocratic home. Her family's wealth and as a child prodigy, she was able to expand her studied in such subjects like math, biology and linguistics.  By the time she had reached the young age of ten, she had already achieved getting a master's degree and was able to speak many different languages, with her fluently unknown.

Into adulthood, Veronica was met with prestige, being given the title of Countess Ashford which would be passed onto her descendants, that chose to go her more known name.  The Ashford's developed a tradition to be known either as a Countess or an Earl to be bestowed upon them as a gift from their butler.  Veronica was given a golden teapot.  Following her death, the Ashford family name would continue on with Stanley Ashford. She was embalmed and entombed at the Ashford manor. In the late 20th century, her remains were examined by Alexander Ashford, using her DNA for experimentation for human cloning project CODE: Veronica.

Stanley Ashford

Stanley Ashford was a 19th century British peer.  He was the son of Veronica Ashford, the first Countess Ashford and father of both Thomas and Arthur Ashford who are the third and forth Earls of the Ashford name.

After his mother's death, Stanley was presented with a golden teacup from this butler as a tradition passed on in the family, starting when Veronica was given a golden teapot. Stanley had two sons, Thomas and Arthur, the eldest inherited the Earldom after Stanley's passing.

Thomas Ashford

Thomas Ashford, the third Earl of the Ashford family, son of Stanley and brother of Arthur. He is the second head of the family name. After this father's death, Thomas was presented with a golden teacup as a gift from his butler as family tradition.  Thomas died without any male issues as the peerage was passed onto his twin brother Arthur.

Arthur Ashford

Arthur Ashford was born as a twin, along side his bother Thomas, sons of Stanley Ashford.  By the time his brother Thomas had died, their was no family heir, Arthur inherited Thomas's title of earldom. In the 1930s, the Ashford family was presented with a pair of golden lugers which became a treasured heirloom. These gifts were suspected to of come from Hermann Goring, presented in the follow up of World War II as a diplomatic campaign between Anglo-German unity.  The golden lugers remained in the family for the remainder of the 20th century, considering their political nature.  The Ashford peerage was passed down to Arthur's son, Edward Ashford who became the 5th Earl.

Edward Ashford

Edward Ashford was a virologist and one of the founders of the Umbrella Corporation.  He was born in the early 20th century from Arthur Ashford, an heir to a British dynasty.  Back in the 1930s, the Ashford family was gifted a pair of golden lugers which was a treasured heirloom.  Whether the gifts were bestowed upon Edward of his father, they remained in the family despite political differences between him and Angelo.

When Edward was young, he grew a great interest in the eugenics movement and became close to those in the study of biology such as Oswell E. Spencer, Earl Beardsley, Dr. Henry and Dr. James Marcus. Ashford, Spencer and Marcus grew an interest in Stairway Of The Sun in the 1960s.  It's from West Africa.  The Stairway Of The Sun was the central religion of the Ndipaya tribe, according to the research of Henry Travis work The Natural History Conspectus. Spencer and Marcus saw a mutagenetic virus was produced in the flowers of the garden, a virus that can grant its consumers superhuman powers as detailed by Henry Travis's book. The two, along with Brandon Bailey set off the recover those flowers.  The flowers did indeed contain a virus which was the same virus that Marcus and Spencer guessed to be in it.

Edward Ashford, Spencer and Marcus shared ideas of using the Progenitor Virus for the eugenics movement, creating a race of educated superhumans that would pioneer a new age.  Unfortunately for the three of them, the Progenitor Virus was useless in its natural state as no body would be able to benefit from it. The virus would require a great deal of modification to ensure candidates for the program would not be killed. None in the circle had such funding available, and consequently, Spencer proposed they establish a pharmaceutical company that would raise funding. Edward agreed to the proposal along with a reluctant Marcus. Alongside pharmaceuticals, the three founders agreed to separate Progenitor into a eugenics and a bioweapons project so profits would come from catering to the American military. This plan became known as the "T-Virus Project".

In competition for results, Ashford, Marcus, and Spencer went their separate ways and founded their own laboratories. By mid-1968, Ashford was working with his son, Alexander, at a newly finished laboratory constructed out of an abandoned mine in Antarctica. However, Alexander's expertise was in genetics and not virology, bringing fear to the two that should Edward die prematurely, the Ashford influence over their new world would cease to be. Edward was left to work on his own while his son toyed with human cloning to create an adopted child who would continue the research for this very purpose.

In July of 1968, Edward fell victim to an accident caused by Spencer from the Progenitor Virus. For the next thirteen years, the Antarctic Base made no breakthroughs on their mutant strains, while Spencer and Marcus' "t-Viruses" developed the ability to create zombies in 1978. Veronica's clone, Alexia, began research on Progenitor again in 1981 as a child prodigy. However, she herself disappeared from public life after exposure to her new T-Veronica Virus later that year, soon after Alexander himself was infected. Both survived but were kept in hiding and declared legally missing and legally dead, respectively. The Earldom, therefore, fell to Alfred, a male clone of Veronica born out of an anomaly in the same experiment that created Alexia. With no knowledge of virology, Alfred was in no position to continue the family's research and gained employment in the company as an adult to control a paramilitary base on Rockfort Island. Because of this deterioration in the family's power and prestige, the idea that the family had been cursed was held.

Alexia Ashford

Alexia Ashford was a member of the British nobility, along with her twin clone brother, Alfred.  They were both adopted into the Ashford family by Alexander who became their father. The source of parentage came from a genetics experiment of Alexander when he used DNA from Veronica Ashford to make a modern cloning of her by the project CODE: Veronica. So biologically, Alexia is the daughter of Veronica.  Her grandfather, Edward Ashford, was able to give her a position as a virologist within the Umbrella Pharmaceuticals company, which Edward co-founded.

Alexia and her brother Alfred, the future 7th Earl of the family name, were both born in 1971 to an unnamed surrogate mother of the CODE: Veronica Project. Alexander was able to get a sample of Veronica's DNA from her embalmed body and created genetically modified clone of her, birthing Alexia and Alfred.  The intent was to restore the family name and reputation with a child compared to Veronica who had great intelligence, and to prevent Spencer from fully taking over the Umbrella Corporation in the case if Edward should die.  Alexia's intelligence fulfilled all of Edward's expectations. However, the higher than average Alfred didn't compare to hers, probably caused by a freakish error during the cloning process solely to create Alexia. Both were still raised by Dr. Ashford together under the Antarctic Base of Umbrella.

By the young age of 10, Alexia had already graduated from a university, employed by Umbrella to be a virologist. Feeling isolated from her classmates being a young age and by other children with her intellect, Alexia only had her brother as comfort, having a major loathing for their father.

In 1983, Alfred told Alexia of a secret room beneath the Antarctic Base, where she was working at the time. The door required the three family gemstones to gain entry.  She offered Alfred her gemstone, which is a ruby inside a choker, the twins learned about their origins and that their father Alexander had created them via genetics experiment, which created great resentment towards him. After a month, the twins used Alexander as a experimental test subject for the T-Veronica Virus that she created by combining the Progenitor Virus and an ancient virus that came from queen ants.  The experiment used on Alexander, had mutated him into a massive monster, known as the Nosferatu, they kept imprisoned in the Antarctic base for years.

Alexia discovered flaws in her virus creation and made plans to inject herself with it to become a superhuman being bent on spreading it all around the world.  The data she obtained, Alexia found a way to harness the full effects of the virus with no side effects by inducing herself to a 15-year cryogenic sleep, allowing the virus, in low temperatures to not destroy her tissues through rapid mutation but to mature in her unconscious body.  December 1983, assigned Alfred to protect and carry out her will during the following years she'll be inactive.

Fifteen years have passed, and it's now December 1998, a woke only to notice her dying brother after he activated the thawing process before he died in her arms.  Cradling her brother's dead body, Alexia was able to destroy the snowmobile Claire Redfield and Steve Burnside were making their escape in.  Now in full control of the virus, she sought to spread the T-Veronica virus all over the world, dominating it as queen of humanity.  As an act of revenge over Alfred's death, Alexia had Claire and Steve returned to the Antarctic Base so she can use them for experimentation.

Steve Burnside was imprisoned in the base's Coliseum, Alexia conducted the same virus experiment that she used originally on her father.  As Steve begins to mutate out of control, he was able to resist Alexia's control to have him kill Claire, making her impale Steve with one of her Alexia pod tentacles.  Shortly later, she confronted Albert Wesker, who demanded she hand over her strain of the virus in the replica of the Spencer mansion's main hall, but Alexia refused his order.  She began to mutate, and having control over her blood, which became flammable when she spread it out of her body. In a short fight, Wesker found Alexia to be impervious to his attacks as he himself is also a superbeing. During the fight, Wesker noticed Chris Redfield hiding behind a pillar witnessing the whole situation, retreated having Chris engage in the fight against her, resulting in her defeat but retreated soon after.

Because of her recent first defeat against Chris, Alexia was weakened and she lured the Redfield brother and sister to the control room through one of the Veronica mutant breeder pods.   Taking a single shot from Chris, made Alexia mutate further into a cocoon resembling an anthill. She is now able to breed countless larva and send them off to attack Chris along with her four tentacles, and flame throwing abilities. Despite her mutation, she was beaten by Chris.  Alexia ordered the ants below the platform to cover her body giving her wings and shedding her oviduct.  In her last mutant form, Alexia became a flying dragonfly able to spit great amounts of flame and absorbing Chris's gunfire.  Chris noticed the linear launcher that Alexander created and used it against the flying Alexia, destroying her forever, putting an end to the Ashford name.

Alfred Ashford

Alfred Ashford, is the 7th Earl in the Ashford family and was a British nobleman and governor of Rockfort Island.  He was the genetic engineered clone son of Veronica Ashford, the first Countess of the Ashford family, along with his twin sister Alexia.  Legally the twins were the son of Alexander Ashford, the 6th Earl.  Alfred was the last governor of Rockfort Island, when overseen when the island was attacked by a bioweapon, causing the locals to become zombies and those who survived exodus.  The island also had a prison camp to hold captive enemies of Umbrella.  He soon died after the island fell due to a T-Virus outbreak caused by a rival group against Umbrella.

Alfred was born in 1971 after a three year genetics project to create a child with intelligence.  Alexander wanted to create a child that would have the intelligence to continue the virology led by Edward Ashford, one of the founders of Umbrella and deny Spencer's total control over the company should he die. Alfred is the male version clone of Alexander's great-great-grandmother Veronica, the procedure caused a clone splitting, giving one male attributes and other female.  The twins were christened as Alfred and Alexia, the legal father is Alexander.

From birth the twins were divided up based on their intelligence with Alfred idolizing Alexia. While having higher intelligence than Alexia, his sister had become a genius and the family prioritized her education.  She graduated from a university at the age of 10. The two grew up and lived together in the underground Antarctic Base of Umbrella where Alexia conducted her own research on the T-Virus in a project she called the T-Veronica Project.  In 1983, the twin children discovered the origins of their births and they were not impressed to know that they were genetically created by their father Alexander. The two forced Alexander to take the T-Veronica trials and held him captive bound to the wall, under his office in a secret room.  Shortly after, Alexia found a way to control the viral corruption but the process was a long fifteen year cryostasis.

Alexia saw no other choice but to go along with the procedure to pursue her dreams of godhood. She had Alfred seal her up in her desired stasis.  Both Alexander and Alexia were considered dead by the public and Alfred gained the title of 7th Earl Ashford.

Without a family at the age of twelve, Alfred had to continue on with the Ashford legacy on his own.  He overcame his grievances and was able to attend an English university where he gradated in 1993. Alfred was able to gain full employment at Umbrella Pharmaceuticals just like the other Ashford did since Edward.  Using his family name, Alfred was able to do multiple jobs from within Umbrella, which were irrelevant in the company politics.

Taking on the role of director of the Antarctic Base, Alfred also took advantage of becoming the last governor of Rockfort Island.  The following year, the Hispanic population was driven out to make way for a prison camp for the enemies of Umbrella a boot camp for anti-B.O.W. training and a private residence palace on the other side of the island valley, where he hoped to live with Alexia one day. Given rulership of these facilities, Alfred didn't want anything to do with the Antarctic Base, and focus mainly a dictatorial rule on Rockford Island.

Still grieving the loss of his sister Alexia, Alfred's mental health began to shatter, creating a split personality; one of which was the insane Alfred and other were the memories of Alexia, creating a second personality resembling her.  He remained oblivious to her return, Alfred lived alone in his mansion on Rockfort Island allowing the Alexia fragment of his mind take full control over him including dressing up like her and speaking in her voice.  Kind of like Norman Bates from the Alfred Hitchcock movie "Psycho." The fraction of his mind that represented Alfred had long conversations with the Alexia portion of his split personality.  He also developed militaristic tendencies and an inflated ego, making his mind erode even more.  Because of his neurosis, Alfred under the Alexia portion of his mind, he invented a person named Tanya, as a way to mask who he was waiting for to return from the fifteen years of cryogenic stasis.

While in charge of Rockfort Island, Alfred enforced harsh torture and deaths on the prisoners of Umbrella.  He didn't act directly, instead he hired the prison camp's autonomists to preform ritual tortures on them, providing him with drugs to use.  A bridge was constructed in 1994 that would allow easy access from the governor's palace to his private residence. The work crew was killed to keep them silent.  His secretary, Robert Dawson, was sent to the prison camp after seeing Alfred pose as Alexia.

Further on, as Alfred's career moved forward, his mental state had gotten even more erratic with his iron fist. He neglected his Antarctic management, giving him the disapproval from his workers at the transport terminal, denied vacation time while behind on deliveries.  These delivery delays created a global shortage of chemicals in 1998 to which Alfred as blamed for.  In mid 1998, Umbrella HQ was aware of the HCF spy ring on Rockfort Island and research links held prominent role on the island. Believing an attack on the island was bound to happen, the T-078 Tyrant was shipped to the island base to use against the attackers.

It's now late December in 1998, and the HCF had attacked the island for sure with their operatives in the prison camp detonating explosives, leading to a virus strain being released in airborne pathogen.  Much like in the Mansion Incident, the T-Virus strain transmission of turning infected hosts into zombies.  Those who weren't infected found themselves killed by their own men.  Alfred avoided the disaster and armed himself with a sniper rifle for protection. He wrongly determined one of the attacker spies to be Claire Redfield, who was also imprisoned recently and let go. Switching between his split personalities he shared with Alexia, he had Claire and an escaped prisoner Steve Burnside believe that there was two people.  During a standoff at the private residence bedroom, Claire and Steve found out about Alfred's split personality disorder.  Alfred escaped the residence, and set off the self-destruct system at the training camp to detonate the island.  He released the T-078 Tyrant to deal with those still on the island and fled using his Harriet Jet to the Antarctic base.

Upon arrival at the site, Alfred saw that the facility had been overtaken by zombies that had been transported their by planes that were from Rockfort Island. The cause death of Alfred was unsure of after he arrived in Antarctica.  One theory is that he found both Claire and Steve and when attempting to kill them but Steve shot him, dropping Alfred into a deep pit, dragging himself to the chamber where Alexia is about to awaken.  One last move is he freed Alexia from the cryogenic stasis and as she stepped out, he died right in her arms.  If that theory was correct, Alexia would place Alfred's body into the same stasis chamber she was just hibernating in.  Later, Chris Redfield discovered the body of Alfred in the chamber and Alfred gemstone ring slipped off his finger.  Chris took the gemstone off the ring as one of the gemstones to gain access to a secret room.  Another possible theory is that Alexia strangled to death Alfred for punishment for being late in awakening her. Regardless to Alfred's cause of death, Alfred perished as Alexia awakened from her fifteen years in cryogenics sleep.
