This is the first Resident Evil not to mention or reference the Umbrella Corporation in any way.

The codenames Leon and his contacts use from The Wizard of Oz.  Leon's codename is Tin Man.

This was Robin Sachs' final film before his death on February 1, 2013 at the age of 61.  He died of heart failure.

Leon is the only character to appear in every CGI Resident Evil movie. As of 2026 this marks the only appearance of Ada Wong in a CGI Resident Evil movie. Ada and Leon regularly crossed paths in almost all of his appearances in the video games.

This movie take place before the events of Resident Evil 6 (2012). In the final cut, you can see Ada Wong talking with Derek Simmons, the main villain.  Lastly, brief shots from the upcoming Resident Evil 6 game can be seen in the credit line.

This movie has elements from the game Resident Evil 2 (1998): Ada Wong, Leon S. Kennedy, Lickers, and the Tyrant T-103 (Mr. X) all make appearances.  Elements from Resident Evil 4 (2005): the Ada Wong's maneuver (flip-and-catch the gun), Las Plagas, Ada using the grapple gun to escape after speaking with Leon and Leon saying "women!" in a scoff.

Buddy was just a teacher who was going to marry his coworker. However, the corrupt government blew up the grade school with her and the children in it; making a false claim that terrorists were using it as a base.
