Koushi Nakanishi, who directed the game, claims the found footage is of the crew members at haunted locations in Osaka, Japan using GoPro cameras.

According to scenario director Morimasa Sato, Jack Baker was known simply as "Daddy" during the game's development. The name Jack came from the character of Jack Torrence, from The Shining played by Jack Nicholson.

Marguerite being obsessed with her lantern is a nod to how bugs are obsessed with lights.  In fact, when it comes to having to confront her both in the guardhouse and in battle, she uses bugs.

Among the many homages to past games is a book players may spot on tables or in boxes. A book, titled The Unveiled Abyss, was written by Clive R O'Brian, former head of the BSAA in Resident Evil Revelations.

The game features many references to the Evil Dead series.

In the Happy Birthday tape, which takes place right after the Banned 21 tape, Clancy has all 5 fingers on both hands, meaning canonically he didn't lose a single game of blackjack during the first round.

It is possible to play the game's entirety using the VR headset.

Throughout the Baker house there's cans of food on shelves.  One of which is Nishella, which comes from the name Nutella.

In the next Resident Evil game Resident Evil 8 Village, it's revealed that Ethan was murdered by Jack Baker when he said "Welcome to the family."  Ethan was brought back to life by the Mold which explains how he can heal from major bodily injuries.

Old Eveline speaks within a southern accent, but her younger projection does not.

Even though Ethan is the primary hero in the game, his face is never seen anywhere in the game.

There are many references to previous Resident Evil games throughout the game:

• There's a picture in the main hall of the Arklay Mountains before the 1998 "mansion incident" in the first Resident Evil game.
• The final gun is called the Albert-01 pistol which is named after the antagonist Albert Wesker.  It's design is similar to the Samurai Edge from Resident Evil 5.  The pistol was used to decapitate B.O.W.s just like in the first Resident Evil game when Brad Vickers dropped a Rocket Launcher to help either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine.
• There's an article paper written by Alyssa Ashcroft about missing people in Dulvey, Louisiana where the game takes place.  Alyssa is one of the playable characters in Resident Evil Outbreak Files #1, File #2.
• During the banned footage mini game, the play character, Zoe, finds an article mentioning Edonia, which is a fictional country in Resident Evil 6.
• Mia finds an article on the wrecked ship that's about the survivors of The Raccoon City virus outbreak, during the events of Resident Evils 2, 3: Nemesis.
• As you enter a passcode to enter Luca's Happy Birthday puzzle room, the sound effects are of the inventory screen from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
• In the final chapter, Ethan encounters a mercenary who introduces himself as "Redfield". Redfield is the last name of the main protagonist Chris/Claire Redfield. It is later revealed in the DLC "Not a Hero" that the helicopter belongs to Blue Umbrella, and the mercenary is indeed Chris Redfield, who had been asked by the BSAA to assist Blue Umbrella in capturing Lucas.

The Bakers were originally supposed to own a dog which would of appeared during the dinner scene and chases Ethan in the gardens.  The idea was scrapped.

Jack and Lucas survived the events of the main game, but got killed by Chris Redfield in "Not A Hero," and Jack's brother Joe in "End of Zoe."

Eveline prevents the Bakers from leaving the premises but Zoe has normal food and supplies in her trailer, because Lucas, a psycho, supplies her with food from the underground salt mine labs.

Photograph of unknown old lady with 'E-001' written on the back, which is revealed towards an ending to be the B.O.W named Eveline, can be found right after Ethan and Mia escape from the cell in the first chapter.

Lucas spends most of the game hiding out in his barn or the salt mines.  When Jack and Margarette are killed, Lucas comes out to make a move against Ethan.

When it comes to the part where the game player has to choose between who to save (Mia or Zoe) and escape with, choosing Zoe will eventually doom her.  Choosing Mia will lead up to a good ending.

It makes sense Eveline begins appearing in Ethan's mind after Marguerite dies. She lost a thrall and now has more free mental space to focus on Ethan.

Jack had the most bizarre mutation from the mold. He turns into a giant legless lizard with multiple eye. Whatever was left on him from the faulty cure merged with the swamp plant life later.

Despite Mia stating the serum would kill Eveline, it just melts her into sentient mold with a face. Suggesting the rapid aging Eveline suffered altered her biology so that it couldn't completely kill her.

This is the first, and maybe only Resident Evil game to have both the worldwide and Japanese titles together.  "Biohazard" is the Japanese name and "Resident Evil" is the worldwide name.

The PlayStation 4 Trophy "Master of Unlocking" is a reference to the first Resident Evil, where Barry calls Jill the "master of unlocking" before giving her a lockpick.

In order to get the shotgun, you need to replace it with a broken one on a statue.  This is the same kind of puzzle from the first Resident Evil and the first remake game to get the shotgun by replacing it with a broken one.

In the attic of Lucas's bedroom, there is a renovation contract which states that the construction was done by 'Trevor & Chamberlain Construction.' This is a reference to George Trevor, the architect who built the Spencer mansion from the first Resident Evil game.

Mistakes

Mia is obviously holding a camera in order to make videos of herself at the beginning of the game, but there's no showing of it from her shadows and reflections.

There's game files indicating the Mold infection takes 3 days to take effect, but in the banned footage mini game "Daughters" the Bakers got infected with the Mold in under an hour.

If you kill Mia in another area that isn't the largest space in the attic, you'll both suddenly be teleported there for Jack's introduction.

Margaret appears out of nowhere when you attempt to scavenge a part of the serum. Even if you look to where she would pop out from, it's just a desk against a wall.

The ship has been shipwrecked for over 2 years, but the lights and power are still functioning.

In the 'Happy Birthday!!' video, the first-person view is that of a man who is initially tied up, with the camera following his head movements. The tape is in S-VHS format, which would make the camera too bulky and awkward to mount on a man's head.

Doors can open both ways.

While Margarette screams for Ethan, she has a malicious smile instead.
